The clouds finally broke and gave us amazing light for the beginning of the reception and dinner. It literally made the whole place look heavenly.
We knew we wanted to do a grand entrance, but realized we never picked a song for it.So moments before we were to be introduced as Mr. and Mrs. Denfeld for the first time, we decided it was only appropriate to walk out (our dance out…) to “Sexy Back”. It was so much fun to have a silly song playing!
Our food was insanely delicious, people were raving! I had the most amazing bridal party who immediately prepared a plate for me, and when we were getting caught chatting away with guests they kindly pulled us away and let everyone know it was time for us (and everyone else) to sit down for dinner. So, I succeeded in eating dinner at my own wedding! Which I’ve heard is quite the feat! The way we had the tables set up we could sit and eat dinner and look at everyone. I found myself taking a moment to just soak it all in. I looked around at everyone chatting, drinking and eating and I just kept thinking to myself “this is our wedding, this is the day we’ve waited so long for”. It was so nice to be able to have the time to watch people enjoy themselves.
Dinner ran pretty long and before we knew it, it was dark (and getting very cold) and we realized we were already behind on speeches. And we had five to get through! I decided to watch the video of the speeches a couple of nights ago and I was seriously laughing and crying all over again (it could’ve been the wine…). I couldn’t have asked for more amazing and heartfelt words from our families. There was so much love in the air!
After speeches, it was time to get down on the dance floor. Corey and I opened it up with our first dance to “We Are Man and Wife” by Michelle Featherstone. Then, our DJ redeemed himself from his processional mishap and kept the dance floor packed the rest of the night. He opened it with “I Gotta Feeling“ by the Black Eyed Peas, it was the most perfect song to start the dancing, and it was a good night, indeed!
Time was passing quickly at this stage in the night and all of a sudden the fry cart had arrived and the cake hadn’t been cut and I hadn’t changed into my party dress and guess what? I didn’t care one single bit. We were having so much fun that I didn’t care about that stuff anymore (well, I cared about getting my dress on since it’s the cutest thing EVER). I just wanted to enjoy the rest of our wedding night and have fun with our friends and family. So we snapped a couple quick pictures with the Portland’s famous French fry cart, Potato Champion, and got back to the dance floor. I wouldn’t have had it any other way.
At the very end of the night, when we had overstayed our welcome at the venue and were trying to get all the drunkards on the bus back to downtown, we quickly “cut our cake” with a sparkler! And did a couple fun “send off” photos (by this point Jill had left) and called it good.
There are no words to describe how much happiness and love I felt on that day. Not everything went as planned but in my mind I have no disappointment and we are just forever grateful for all the work and time our families put into making our day absolutely, positively perfect. There really isn’t a way to explain what it meant to us. All I can say is we are nothing without them and our day would’ve been nothing without them.
Sorry for the long post. I really hope you enjoyed these recaps! I have the greatest readers who make blogging so much fun! Thank you for being here, your words and comments are so inspiring and make me so happy every day! I'm going to do one last post with our setup and details and then that will be the end of wedding recap week!
